Introduction

Each photo slide below has numbered callouts that correspond to the legend below that image.

Getting Started

1) Click "Products > All Products" on left-hand admin menu

2) Click one of the "Template" products to see an example of a product that's already been set up.  These products can also be duplicated to start entry of a similar product.

Product Edit Page

Once clicking through to a template product, scroll down to the area where the images show up to get to the main area for options, categories, variants..

1) Images: In the images section, you can upload images.  1000x1000 pixels is a good size to upload.  Uploading images with either the same size or same aspect ratio will give good consistency to the look of the product pages. Upload an image with the word "model" in the filename to specify the rollover "how to wear" image.  Ex: bracelet-1-model.jpg.  The image with the word "model" in the filename will show up as the rollover image on all areas of the site.

2) Variants: the Variants are one of two mechanisms for setting user-choosable options for the product.  The variant is the more detailed option - a variant allows for custom pictures and pricing for the options.  The variant choices will show up on the product detail page as either menus or color pickers for the user to choose when he checks out.  If you want you can set custom pricing for a particular variant or change the images.  The template products have already been set up with the finishes and metals.  You can copy this set up for most situations.

The two options that have been set up as Variants are "Metal" and "Finish".  For a new product, select "Edit Options" in the variants section and then add "Finish" as an option, then the specific values like "Rose Gold, Yellow Gold" and so on.  Same process for "Metal".

3) Collections: the Collections are the high level groupings of the products.  They are listed on the main black navigation bar on the site (Necklaces, Rings, Bracelets, etc).  It's possible to add products manually to collections in a fine grained way, but for GNRTN the categories seemed easily defined so it's been set up to use tags to automatically put product into Collections.  So to add a product to the "Necklaces" collection and make it show up on the Necklaces page, simply add the tag "Necklace" to the product.  This will associate it to that collection.  Same for Rings, Bracelets, etc.

4) Tags: the Tags are the second mechanism for setting up user-choosable options.  The tags are less complicated than the variants, but do not allow for pricing per option or custom images.  The tags have been used to implement things like "Stone option" or "Sizing".   For example: to give a product the ability to be available with a user-chooseable stone, give that product the "Stone Option" tag.  To make bracelet sizing a choice, add the tag "Bracelet Sizing".  Monogram is also a yes/no option you can set with a tag.

You can see all the options that are available by checking the template products that are already set up.  You can copy the tags from the template or clone the template product and subtract the irrelevant tags.

Product Detail Page

1) On the Product Detail page the options you set on for the product will show up here.

Collection (Product Browsing) Page

1) The product browsing (collection) pages can be filtered by the user based on Tags.  Unfortunately filtering by variants is not possible.  So we'll have to enter tags to cover the options laid out by the variants if we want them to be choosable on this page.

To set up which options show up on the collections filters, do the following:

1) Click "Online Store" on the left side menu

2) Then click "Customize" on the Ella theme.

This will take you to the site configurator.  You can click around on the right side and set options on the left.  Click the collection to set options for it:

1) Click "Necklaces" to edit filter options for necklaces.

1) Then click "Sidebar" on the left side menu.

1) Finally click one of the options on the sidebar settings that come up.  From here you can set the display label of the option like "Finish" and also set the relevant tags that trigger this filter.  The settings "Color Text 1", "Color Text 2" etc are where you can enter the values of the tags that will be filtering options.
